Wonder Buhle

Wonder Buhle (b. 1989)

Born in South Africa, Wonder Buhle is a Durban-based artist from Kwa-Ngcolosi, a village still ruled by a chief. After training at the BAT Centre Artists in Residency Program, he proceeded to study fine art at the Durban University of Technology. His work encompasses what he calls the “my inner soul, my dreams and my identity.” This black South African identity constitutes a microcosm of the nation’s complex, challenging and eclectic culture, defining Buhle’s identity and his work. Buhle’s work has been exhibited in solo shows at Ron Mandos (Amsterdam, 2022), BKhz Gallery (Johannesburg, 2020), the Galerie Amsterdam, 2022), BKhz Gallery (Johannesburg, 2020), the Galerie Philippzollinger, (Zurich, 2019), and Durban’s Ukumisa insika Art Gallery (Durban, 2018). He has also exhibited in group shows at the Eduardo Secci Gallery (Milano, 2022), the Frieze Seoul Art Fair:d a Bremer Kunststipendium Art Grant (three-month residency) and in 2020 he took part in the La Brea Studio Artists Residency in L.A.
