Vasquez was born in the Dominican Republic, and now lives and works in the USA. He describes his paintings as “declarative moments that capture humanity through the eyes of an artist.” His style is figurative, bringing alive quiet moments of tenderness and intimacy through a vibrant palette
of colour.
Fundamentally, Vasquez’s artwork is entwined with the history of his homeland, his various communities, and his family. These emotionally engaged self-reflective works probe his identity as a Caribbean immigrant and
the disruptive force of the immigrant experience. Consequently, Vasquez’s paintings explore his own complicated, stratified identity, “as layered and complex as the many snapshots
I paint from.”
Vasquez has exhibited in institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary African Diaspora Art, Brooklyn, NY; El Museo del Barrio, NY; Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, Charlotte, NC; and Urban Institute of Contemporary Art, MI.
As well as with galleries and art fairs around the world.
