Orit Fuchs

Orit Fuchs (b. 1970)

Born in Israel, Tel Aviv-based Orit Fuchs has worked for some of the country’s top agencies, gaining a broad grasp of contemporary pop culture and gender roles, the subject of her artwork. Combined with her deep insight into the human psyche, this results in startlingly new perspectives at the interface of fiction and reality. Fuchs has been represented in art fairs in in the US and abroad, including a 2019 solo show at NYC’s Mayson Gallery, exhibitions in Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Korea, and Taiwan, and group shows in a number of Tel Aviv galleries. Fuchs’s eclectic range of media encompasses sculpture, painting, typography, illustration, knitting and photography, to name just a few. Her art, a form of documentary journalism, is preoccupied with the great diversity of the female image and the varied roles of women in modern society. Her Short Stories series depicts faceless women in trivial yet beautiful natural moments, leaving the viewer to interpret their colours as analogues of their meaning. By contrast, Fuchs’s oil paintings depict the more edgy, eclectic, unpredictable side of her personality, while in a further contrast, her sculptures are charmingly innocent and playful.
