Minyoung Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, and lives and works in London, where she graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2021. She has exhibited work in London, Beirut, Taipei, China, and New York.
Perhaps as a consequence of this cosmopolitan heritage, embracing both eastern and western culture, Kim’s work engages with the universalism of the philosophical concept of phenomenology, the philosophical study of the nature and structure of consciousness and experience. Accordingly, her paintings attempt to recreate her
own direct experience of feelings and memories, bypassing the intermediary and limiting channel of language to render the unmediated experience itself. Her paintings, like these experiences themselves, are blurry and sometimes dream-like.
