Chicago-born Pope is an interdisciplinary visual artist concerned with issues of identity as they relate to the intersection between the individual and the community. She received her BFA and MA in Design from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago, where she is currently an Adjunct Professor. Pope has received numerous awards for her work, which is displayed in art galleries across the USA.
Pope’s practice has particularly focussed on issues of race, gender, power, class, history, and place. Her early work, often involving performative and sports-related projects, has given way to more systematic social concerns, notably the voice of youth impacted by socio-political turmoil. More recently still, Pope’s work displays a new, unprecedented personal intimacy.
